New
systems have been installed throughout Inventure, wherever possible
in duplicate, selecting equipment only from best manufacturers
with world-wide service outlets. This includes twin engines,
(38hp Yanmars) twin generators, (6kva Wispers) two air-conditioning
units and two heating systems. The electrical system is fully
compatible world-wide and single sourced from Mastervolt;
state-of-the-art boat instruments and radar are from Autohelm,
and comprehensive communications include Icom VHF and Mobeq,
the British Telecom satphone.
Although
the boat can be controlled from anywhere on deck (via an infra-red
link on the wheelchairs Joystick), the primary steering position
is in the main cabin, providing shelter and safety, especially
in rough weather. The only foreseeable need for anyone on deck,
even able bodied crew, would be to re-secure equipment. (Anchor,
RIB, liferaft and communication aerials)
Specialist
equipment to aid access and control by wheelchair users include
a hydraulic side lift, a steering position lift and a two tonne
hydraulic crane mounted on the side deck in order to lower and
raise the 15 ft RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) with its wheelchair
occupants. The RIB has a stable catamaran hull and automatic
bow door, enabling independent access in and out by wheelchair
users, together with its own accessible onboard controls. |
