If you're looking for something to tell you that the band you're about to listen to is composed of nearly famous, former members of various bands or how many rock stars the guitarist has jammed with, forget about it.

Unless you've heard of Fourth Watch, King 'Tar, The Steelwood Band, or the Gospel Imperials, where the people in the band called STRIDE came from is irrelevant to who and where they are now.

How the band came together is not a long story. Matt and Cornelius were introduced at work. Reggie and Cornelius knew each other, literally, from the cradle. And the rest, they say, is history.

If you've got to have more information, read on. STRIDE is led by a guitarist, singer, and songwriter named Matt Szechenyi (can you say, "Sechainey"?). A graduate of Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, Matt was studying counseling and working by day with troubled teens. By night, Matt was performing in several acoustic acts in Virginia and the Washington, D.C. area.
Cornelius Conway, a bassist and composer, met Matt on the job. They began collaborating and making 4-track recordings after work. Cornelius, who grew up playing bass in Gospel bands, shared Matt's faith and desire to serve God through making funky music.
Soon the duo was performing at a variety of venues in Matt's hometown, Winchester, Virginia, and elsewhere. STRIDE gained enthusiastic support with local airplay and a regional talent competition victory.
When Cornelius' brother, drummer Reggie Conway, called to say he was moving back from California, everything clicked. Matt was teaching guitar at Jammin' Java in Vienna, Virginia, where he met studio engineer Tony Alany. Soon the trio was in Tony's studio producing the STRIDE record.
In October, 2001, STRIDE released an album entitled, "STEP", which was featured on WTJM "Joy" 88.1FM and WFQX "The Fox" 99.3FM. The band is reaching out and gaining momentum as more and more people are getting in step with STRIDE.
With a second CD in the works, the future looks bright for STRIDE.

If you insist on having it all spelled out for you, check this out. What distinguishes STRIDE's sound is although it may be defined as Funk 'n Roll, it evidences a greater concern for reaching from outside of Rock music than so many bands, to create new territory that translates into popular music.
STRIDE gets into a steady groove that goes for a ride, traveling from Acoustic Folk and Pop to R&B, Jazz, and Latin/Brazil Fusion.
Matt Szechenyi is a seasoned guitarist known for his individualistic fingerstyle playing and impossible looking chords, as well as for his fast, improvised riffs and scat-singing solos. He sings with a sweet, soulful voice and he sings about faith, hope and love in an uncomplicated lyrical style.
Cornelius Conway is a Funk bassist, with a slap 'n pop style and a bubbly beat that gets up and dances by itself, who reveals a mature jazz voice on his instrument.
Reggie Conway is from the same school as his brother. His dynamic drumming demonstrates a creative force that is full of surprises but is always tasty and always on time.
When STRIDE gets together, you can tell that they are three really nice guys who love to jam for you with a positive vibe that might just get you happy, unless you're an incurable cynic.
What results is an infectious groove with beats that you can dance to and a depth that will reach your soul with the relevant message of STRIDE.
