Jettison is an indie-rock quintet from Seattle, Washington. The core of the band was formed in the latter part of 2000, when Allan Canumay (guitar/vocals), Steve Chavez (lead guitar), and Marc Mazique (drums) began jamming and writing songs together. By the next spring, the trio had recruited a bassist, recorded a three-song demo, and began playing shows in Seattle clubs (including performances at Graceland, I-Spy, the Crocodile Café). That fall, after finding themselves without a bass player, Canumay, Chavez, and Mazique were joined by Nan Schwarz (cello, vocals), a former member of Beware of Clevo. After playing a few shows in early 2002, the current lineup was completed with the addition of bassist Scott Graham. Shortly after, the band decided to record a full-length album, and in May, they recorded their 9-song debut CD at MRX Studios in Seattle, with local engineer/producer Mike Epting spinning the dials.

Jettison's self-titled debut CD showcases the band's melodic blend of emo, Britpop, and art-rock, garnished with the harmonic vocal interplay between guitarist Allan Canumay and cellist Nan Schwarz. While the group's music has been compared to groups such as R.E.M. and Versus, all nine tracks on Jettison (from the anthemic bittersweet opener, "Phantom" through the simultaneously minimal, yet intricately woven closer, "Always There") are stamped with the band's distinctive, original imprint. Other standouts include the relentless catchy "Send", the pseudo-jazzy "Shadowbox", and the dynamic "Red Glare", and the moody "Esoteric Dream".
