Al Stevens is a jazz musician. He plays piano, string bass, trumpet, flugelhorn, slide and valve trombones, and alto and tenor saxophones. Known for his original songs of parody and irreverence, Al is usually found in jazz rooms singing his tunes, blowing his horns, and playing piano solos that range from stride, bebop and standards to mainstream jazz.
Al has played with many of the greats in jazz and big band music. The list includes Al Hirt, Lionel Hampton, Louis Bellson, Wild Bill Davison, Stuff Smith, Billy Butterfield, Ira Sullivan, Barret Deems, Warren Vache, Jr, Don Menza, Bud Freeman, Kenny DaVerne, Tommy Saunders, Speigle Wilcox, Dick Carey, Maxine Sullivan, Wild Bill Whelan, Joni James, Bob Havens, Pee Wee Erwin, Bill Allred, Brian Torf, Connie Haines, Ernie Carson, Richie Cole, and others.
Al plays piano with the big bands of Harry James under the leadership of Art Depew and Tommy Dorsey, led by Buddy Morrow.
In his "Along Together" CD, Al goes it alone, playing all the instruments himself through the magic of multi-track recording.
