Under the direction of Dr. Art LaPierre, the American River College Vocal Jazz Ensemble is comprised of seven college students studying music and jazz vocals. The ensemble performed at the International Association of Jazz Educators Convention in Toronto in January 2003 and will sing at the annual conference of the California Music Educators Association in March of 2004. Their first cd won a 2002 Downbeat Magazine Award. The nine arrangements in this collection range from a capella ballads to swing to up-tempo Latin jazz. The ARC Evening Community Vocal Jazz Ensemble, a 17-member class, is featured as well, on "Exactly Like You". All tunes feature The Capital Jazz Project, a Sacramento-based group of professional musicians dedicated to enriching the community through through performances and programs emphasizing jazz history and improvisation.
