On Red Breath, Al Basile's first all jazz recording, he demonstrates his deep understanding of the jazz tradition in his cornet playing, composing, and vocalizing. From little known compositions by writers like Rodgers and Hart, to his impressive body of original songs, to Duke Ellington's "I Didn't Know About You" he touches on everything from swing to contemporary with a constant thread of the mainstream of American jazz as the bulk of his inspiration. Marty Ballou on bass, Paul Odeh on piano, and Marty Richards on drums all shine and give tasteful support to Basile's playing throughout.
