Legendary pianist, producer, singer and songwriter Allen Toussaint released his new jazz album on the Captivating Recording Technologies label. "Going Places" marks Toussaint's first foray into the jazz idiom in a career spanning more than 50 years.
"It was my son Reginald's idea. He pointed out that I had not recorded a jazz album and I felt it was time. I've played jazz since I was a kid starting out in the business. The new album is a personal exploration. I'm pleased with it." says Allen Toussaint.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Grammy Award nominee has written and produced more than thirty certified hits at R&B, Pop and Country including the hits "Southern Nights", "Lady Marmalade", "Yes We Can, Can", "What Do You Want the Girl to Do?", "Fortune Teller" and "Mother-in Law". Toussaint has worked with and/or written and produced for a myriad of stellar performers: Patti LaBelle, Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, The Judds, Ramsey Lewis, Ringo Starr, Chet Atkins, The Neville Brothers, The Meters, Bonnie Raitt, Lenny Kravitz, Etta James, Elvis Costello and many more.
Toussaint's newest movement "Going Places" further establishes this New Orleans music legend's place in the driver's seat of pioneering the New Orleans funky sound. "The tunes swing, but never lose that breezy feeling," says label president Reginald Toussaint.
"His musical genius and approach to music has no boundaries. Toussaint heaps innovation and that unique 'Toussaint perspective' into this collection. Solos are unlike the norm of jazz, they are infused with elements of swing and bop, but right in the middle of all that you can hear his trademark soulful funky intervals. The tunes are sophisticated and yet funky, the arrangements fresh and freewheeling, resulting in a musical gumbo of jazzy sounds that are a joy," comments music executive Jeff Cook, New West Records.
