I have long been a fan of true American music, and so Travelin' Woman is a collection of songs which draws from American roots...within Travelin' Woman, you will find influences of rockabilly, New Orleans Jazz, and Delta Blues, and featuring my new song, Mirror.
In my professional life I am truly a "travelin' woman", which weaves a thread of continuity throughout the songs.
I am a commercial pilot with a 27-year airline career flying FedEx jets to every corner of the globe. It became clear to me that as a true "travelin' woman", much of my music has been influenced by themes of out-of-the-way places, living from a suitcase, being away from home, and life on the road.
I have been singing and playing guitar since my teens, and dabble a bit with the fiddle, banjo and keyboard. However, it's only recently that I have been encouraged to record a feature album.
I have had the great fortune to be associated with, and mentored by, some of the top names in blues/rock music. My songs and style have been influenced by such talented women as Maria Muldaur, Rory Block, Sandy Carroll and Ruthie Foster.
Travelin' Woman was produced by my wonderful British friend Tim Hinkley (www.timhinkley.com), who has enjoyed a long and rewarding career as a keyboardist and songwriter for such popular groups as Humble Pie. Tim's latest CD, A Little Bit of Soul, is available at cdbaby.com.
My great friend, blues artist/composer Sandy Carroll (www.bessieblues.com) has been my constant guiding light and mentor. Sandy's exciting new CD, Delta Techno, will debut in January 2006.
Sandy's husband, Grammy-winning sound engineer Jim Gaines, has lent his incredible ear to the project as he mixed each track and engineered several of the sessions.
I have a tremendous collection of friends who have given of their time and talent on Travelin' Woman. Drummer and percussionist Jerry Carrigan; upright bass player Henry Strzelecki; keyboardist, harmonica, and sax player Tim Hinkley; keyboardist and vocalist Sandy Carroll; guitar players Frankie Marlar and Evan Leake; electric bassist Randy Tucker; trumpet and vocalist Tim Schoepf; and vocalists Sophie Jordan, David Frassinelli, Vickie Atkins, and Lori Tipton. Thank you all for your wonderful talent!
I hope you enjoy listening to my music as much as I enjoyed making it!
