brazz jazz is an innovative group that derives its name from the combination of Brazilian music and Jazz.

Vocalist Sheryl Cohen, whose fiery yet warm vocal sound adds charm and sophistication to brazz jazz leads the group. Ms. Cohen’s style, sound and manner have been compared to jazz great Diana Krall and to Brazil’s Elis Regina.

Sheryl Cohen is a New York based musician who travels frequently to Brazil to perform. She is the recipient of ASCAP’S 2005 and 2004 ASCAPLUS AWARD.

The co-leader and guitarist of brazz jazz is Rubens de La Corte. Mr. de La Corte’s guitar playing has an unmistakable sound. His concepts can best be characterized as, an intense groove coupled with a clean, warm attack.

Rubens is the guitarist and musical director for 3 time Grammy Nominee Angelique Kidjo. He also tours with Brazilian pianist/singer Eliane Elias.

A fundamental aspect of brazz jazz, which sets them apart from their peers, is the choice of material. Ayrton Martini, Brazilian music critic and producer, writes. “brazz jazz escapes from the Bossa Nova as the obvious translation of Brazilian Jazz”. He further states, “The repertoire choices are not the usual Jazz standards and the songs are chosen with good taste and originality”.
