The Biel Ballester trio is a trio ensemble which plays a jazz style with deep european roots. the so-called "Jazz manouche". This style started with the great french guitarist DJANGO REINHARDT(1910-1953), who mixtured traditional gipsy songs and parisian bal-mussette with the new coming american jazz; wich improvisation freedom fitted perfectly with Django´s spirit. Django achivied wide international succes due the formation of the "Quintette du Hot club de France" with violinist Stephane Grapelli; a group based enterily on string intruments, and wich was probably the only non-american ensemble that influencied american players.
The BIEL BALLESTER TRIO pretends to keep the style in its modern state and also add it’s own creativity by composing their own songs and ways wich have a lot to do with Mediterranean roots.
Biel Ballester studied classic guitar at the prestigious LUTHIER SCHOOL in Barcelona(Spain). There he spent two years with teacher and concertist Alex Garrobé and four with teacher and concertist Fernando Rodriguez. He's also gone to classic guitar master classes from people such as: José Tomás, David Russell, Aniello Desiderio, Manuel Barrueco, Marco Socias, Hopckinson Smith and Jordi Savall (the last two ones speciallists in Barroque music). Biel finished his musical studies at Barcelona's superior conservatorium in year 2000. His self-taugth passion for gypsy-jazz has brougth him to give concerts across europe and has been invited to play with top Gypsy Jazz bands as the Rosenberg Trio, the Robin Nolan trio, Hot Club de norvége among others. Some of his recordings have been choosed to be in CD compilations of the best Gypsy Jazz players of the world. His albums are are edited in USA by the record label Refined Records and distributed in france, UK, Corea and Japan.
