ARTHUR SATYAN
(PIANIST-COMPOSER)
was born in Yerevan, Armenia, in the family of leading Armenian composers. His talent was recognized at early age and music has been the daily mainstay of his life ever since.
Arthur's father, Edward, introduced him to the piano when he was four. By the age of seven Arthur attended musical school, studying piano and composition. At 16 he went on to A.Babajanian Music College, where he continued studies in two departements. At 20 he joined the Komitas Armenian National Higher Conservatory of Music (Composition Department) and graduated in 1998, receiving Masters Degree(MA) in Composition.
Since 1998 he is professor of classical piano at the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music. Arthur is performing weekly with local and touring jazz artists. He is the pianist that Jazz stars like Larry Coryell, John Hicks, Sonny Fortune and Charles Davis came to Beirut eager to hear and play with. Listening to him recently was smiling, approving and applauding Ahmad Jamal.
The quality of his arrangements, compositions and piano playing has raised eyebrows among visiting stars like Alphonse Mouson and Steve Potts. Arthur has performed with Larry Coryell, saxophonist Charles Davis and trumpeter Tex Allen from New York, saxophonists Charles Owens and Matana Roberts, guitarist Ed Cherry and trumpeter Ray Vega from New York, Murali Coryell; singers Joe Lee Wilson, Melissa Walker, Phillip Manuel, Deborah Davis, etc...
Arthur is currently touring with his "A.S.T. - Arthur Satyan Trio" and "Arthur Satyan New Trio" playing his original music; "Three Wheel Drive" trio featuring contrabassist Jack Gregg and drummer Steve Phillips...
