BIO

Starting at the age of three years old, Ben had an interest in music. he took a special interest in the saxophone from listening to his father's collection of jazz albums, but his teachers recommended that he start out on clarinet. After playing the clarinet for a couple of years, he finally took up the alto sax. Nowadays, Ben continues to play alto sax and clarinet, as well as 11 other woodwind instruments.

It always seemed like Ben was ahead of other music students. During most children's middle school years he was in all of the high school performing ensembles. He attended a specialized music magnet school for 5th to 12th graders, called Girard Academic Music Program. By the 7th grade, he was in the All Philadelphia H.S. Jazz Band playing sax and the All Philadelphia Orchestra and Band playing clarinet.

Before graduating from high school, he had received many other awards and opportunities. He was selected to the All American Grammy Band-3 years in a row-which allowed him to attend the Grammy Awards and participate in various events. In 1992, Ben had the honor of playing saxophone with President Bill Clinton while he was on the campaign trail in Philadelphia. President Clinton even used Ben's Tenor Sax.

While in college, Ben had the privilege of performing with many other highly regarded musicians. He achieved a Masters in Music Education and a Bachelors in Jazz Saxophone Performance at the University of the Arts. A few awards Ben received in college were The Michael Brecker Saxophone award and The University of the Art Jazz Award. Some of Ben's musical influences outside of school are George Young, Branford Marsalis, James Taylor, Cannonball Adderley, Sting and Michael Brecker.

Now, Ben is a founding member of the band Big Swing Face. Besides playing gigs with the band, he performs at various private parties, clubs, and concerts as a solo artist. Plus, he arranges and composes music, teaches music in local schools at all levels including college. His overall goal is to simply share his music and talents with others, whether it be through performing, writing, or teaching.
