THE MAN
September 25, 1978 the time? 9 o'clock am. The place? Howard University Hospital in N.W. Washington, D.C. On this day was born Donald Anthony Barnes III later to be known as 2FACE the Don, artist/producer/ and CEO of Cartel Entertainment, a titan in the local rap scene. His childhood, like most underprivileged kids, was spent in the slums and ghettos of the District. Raised, of course, in a single parent home the young Don had only two loves outside of family, money and music. It was these loves that inevitably lead to all kinds of brushes with the law and high speed chases, as well as great local acclaim for his skill as a musician. Brought up in a family where drugs, guns, and gambling weren't crimes, but family traditions, FACE seemed doomed to end up the same way so many in his circumstances have, DEAD or IMPRISONED. Still, whether through destiny or divine intervention, 22 years later he emerges unscathed physically by the streets but forever scarred from the lessons he has learned.
THE MUSIC
With not much in the way of formal training at his disposal, FACE taught himself to play piano at age 9. Fascinated by every form of music from early hip-hop to the classical styles of Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach. It is through these influences that he has created his own distinctive style of production. And as far as rapping, his first rap was written in the fourth grade, and though you've heard that before what you haven't heard is that this rap was delivered to the Board of Education and a portion of it published in the Washington Post. This star was a star even then. His newest material from the upcoming release hopefully with major label support) is even more stellar. From the heartfelt lyrics of a tragic street tale in "Gangsta's Story", to the bona fide dirty-south club smash "SickasNickasâ€, all the way to the universally radio friendly "What Cha' Want". The Dons' new material is more than hot, more than sizzlin', it's the SUN from the son some of us know and all of us can understand. From the urban to the sub-urban, the Don is the future of street music.
THE MISSION
Simple. Through music, to educate and enlighten a world full of people who still don't get it. Why drugs? Why guns? Why violence? To uplift a country of impoverished people to do more, be more or in short SAVE THE WORLD. Impossible? Probably. Can he do it? Possibly. Will you help? Hopefully. Is it lucrative? Definitely
