Aisha Ayers. Her name means "Life" and she lives it to the fullest. This Sacramento, California native moved to Portland, Oregon in '98 and has swooped in and made her indelible mark as a fearless performance poet. In the spring of 2000 she emerged from the coffee shop circuit to take part in performances such as "The Vagina Monologues," Sarah Lawrence College's Urban Soul, Portland International Women's Day, University of Oregon's Lesbopalooza and has headlined with poetry goddess, Alix Olson. Amidst all of this, she emerged as Portland's 2001 Slam Champion, leading her to Seattle to compete in Nationals. You would think after this whirlwind experience she'd be ready to kick back and enjoy her accomplishments for a bit. Instead, her relentless nature pushed her to pick up a 4-track and start tweaking with knobs in her make-shift studio.

Aisha plunged headfirst into every aspect of the production, from helping design the CD layout, creating and recording all the vocal arrangements and actively contributing to the post-production work. A few months later, Venus FlyTrack Records signed her and released "Letters to My Soul."

Her debut album is not only a digital diary, but her invitation to her audience to explore their own unique take of the world. The album emotes her triumphs and struggles with an understanding that the personal is political. Her singing voice rivals her poetry through much of the album, recalling her ethereal choir girl roots as she preaches the gospel according to Aisha. A stunning debut both lyrically and vocally, the CD abides by her favorite quote, "The longest journey is the journey inward." "Letters to My Soul" will not only arouse your heart and senses, but it also proves to be a promising beginning for this prolific writer, singer, actor and overall inspirational revolutionary woman.
