Marty took Shirley under his wing as a young fledgling artist & served as her proctor and mentor. she remained the best of friends with Marty until his untimely death. Other country stars such as Bill Anderson, Billy Walker, and Conway Twitty have played big parts in Shirley's life as friends and professional associates. Shirley sings as well as ever today and has paired her pristine country voice with the resonant vocals of her husband, Bill Murphree.
