What do you get when you add one headstrong, idealistic, and extremely talented young singer/songwriter who has grown up listening to a wide variety of kinds of music to a middle aged acoustic guitarist, classically trained as a musician with 35 years of playing guitar in every setting from as a solo performer to a ska band with influences from Jimi Hendrix to Michael Hedges?
Then to complicate the mix, you add one more ingredient - they are daughter and father. Under normal circumstances, you'd expect an occasional song together at an open mike and a healthy distance whenever discussions of music came up. This isn't a normal circumstance. The answer to the equation is d.
The tension that comes from being family brings an extra element of creativity to the music. The closeness of being family brings an almost uncanny ability to blend in harmonies and in musical direction. Alexis Donkin contributes a rich voice that displays a maturity beyond her years and lyrics that reflect the passion of her youth. Roy Donkin, or "the artist formerly known as dad" as Alexis affectionately calls him, brings well-honed songwriting skills and a guitar style that combines open tunings, slapped harmonics, and the use of the guitar as a percussion instrument to sound as close to an entire band as one acoustic guitar can.
Together they are d, progressive acoustic music for today.
