The Ensemble will feature selections of traditional djembe and dunun music along with accompanying songs from Guinea, Ivory Coast, and Mali.

Culture meets creativity, dedication and passion, incited by the simultaneous grace and power of the drums, in the Black Bear Moon Rhythm Ensemble's performances. Don't miss this opportunity to explore cultural diversity while supporting live, independent local music!

Explains Dave:

"Over the course of the past half-dozen years, I have immersed myself in the diverse world of traditional West African music, studying with many different teachers, and traveling to Africa in 2001 as a means of experiencing the music in the context of the culture from which it comes.

"Many of us who have been studying the music of West Africa together know that it is a complex and intricate musical form with much to teach not only about rhythm and music, but about ourselves and community, as well. The music of West Africa, like many of the folk music traditions of the world, is a profound celebration of life in its many facets. As a musical form, it speaks to people on many different levels, and never seems to fail to move people on a deep level while transcending linguistic and cultural boundaries. It is a part of the rich tapestry of world traditions that I feel deserves to be honored and celebrated as part of the important cultural history of Planet Earth. For these reasons, I have decided to pay tribute to this music which has so affected me on so many different levels over the years."
