Once upon a time, he was born in Ridgecrest, California. After prestigious attendence at William S. Burroughs high school, Silva matriculated in the fall of 2001 to the University of California at Santa Barbara. There, he met the poet J. Godley. He wrote scores of songs which were recorded and mostly released in his 2004 debut, "Boa Sina". He has continued to make music since then. When I asked him about his music career, Silva had this to say: "I think the time I was writing then was a Boa Sina period. That means 'good fate' in Portuguese. There's been a lot of disagreement about it." Silva graduated with an English B.A. in 2005. During that time he also released three records. When I asked about his work habits, he merely replied, "It harkens to a Dante-esque modality. I experienced that. I'm the one the camera loves, anyway. So it's kind of like Athena being born from the head of Zeus. It changes lots of things. But, you know, I'm practicing non-attachment." Silva has been a teacher and works as an artist on Lusitone Records. He has a total of eight albums and is currently working on new material. He will also begin work on his M.A. at San Diego State University in the fall. When I questioned him further, Silva replied: "I'll be spending a week in Lake Tahoe and Montreal respectively. I'm sure it will be very exciting. I'd also like to visit Mexico." --Carlos Terceira Other Biographers: "Adored by hundreds, known by thousands, Alan Silva has gained a reputation for regularly releasing records, being otherwise ascetic and knowledgeable. There is no other quite like him." --John Carpinteria. "He used to live in a place called Fisherman Street. Just like his ancestors." --Joao Nunes

My songs are a unique blend of folk and blues, with a slightly jazzy approach. They are very lyrical, and mostly guitar- or piano-oriented. I have recorded solo projects, as well as with groups. My music is in a similar vein as Neil Young or Bob Dylan, but it also has an "indie" quality to it. I only write original tunes and have recorded over one hundred songs. Nevertheless, my music is very consistent regarding its quality and unity of vision. The majority of my songs have romantic themes. I recently recorded a live album.
