Cosm was formed in 1997 by Daniel Day and Chris Hill (guitars), as an Avante Garde jazz group. Inspired by late period John Coltrane, Albert Ayler, David Ware, and other free jazz music. During a weekly performance at Mechanized Records (Salt Lake City, Utah), the influence and appreciation of electronic music began to slowly reshape the musical concept of Cosm. The energy and art of "drum and bass" has been the biggest inspiration for Cosm in 2002.
One by one, Greg Bower (Programming, Keys), Wendy Jernigan (Vocalist), and Collin McIntire (Turntables, Live Production) joined Daniel to complete Cosm in 2001 (Chris left Cosm in 2002 to pursue other interests). The group's emphasis on experimentation and diversity of influences have helped create their own sound.
Cosm is currently creating new music and recording a new EP, slated for release in late December, 2003. The band will also embark on a small tour after the holidays, to support the upcoming E.P., as well as promoting their most recent release on Pseudo Recordings, which is available through CDBABY.com.
