Maura Murphy started performing in the winter of 2000 under the name Aura. The band is made of four musicians, all graduates of Berklee College of Music in Boston. Maura's career began in 1995 as the lead singer/songwriter of a punk band , The Underaged. After the punk scene, Maura fronted a folk/rock band, The Majai. Influenced by the scene around her, Maura went head first into the genre.
In 1999 she sang background vocals on The Dude of Life's second cd, "Under The Sound Umbrella". The record, released by Phoenix Media, also features three members of the jam band PHISH. Aura features Jacques Mantica on lead guitar, Warren Johnson on drums, and Johnny Morrow on bass. "Running Yourself Against Nothing" was recorded at Dank Studios in Boston, MA. Aura relocated to Brooklyn, NY in 2002.
The colors of the 'aura' are visible through the many styles of music within their unique sound. Aura's music can be described as energetic punk rock with euphoric flashes of electronic soul.
