New Music Convention is Anton Bach's second CD release of the year, a fine collection of songs delivered in a warm piano-vocal setting. The album showcases Bach's considerable skills as a player, singer, composer and lyricist.

High points include the light Eight Times a Day, a song that carries a Gershwinesque form and sensibility, but nonetheless features one of his unique smooth-as-milk changes in the bridge; also, stellar covers of Elton John and Andrea Boccelli; and perhaps ultimately the title track itself.

The song "New Music Convention" introduces an entertaining catalog of mock musical genres (Swedish Country-Western, Smooth Punk, Classical Reggae, New-Age Hawaiian Blues), and also boasts an impressive rhyme for "Lollapalooza" that delivers a smart kick on behalf of its premise.

The music is as always well-tailored to the lyric, and Bach's warm and versatile baritenor voice sounds like it's just beginning to get started. The future promises more top-shelf work from this new artist.
