Every now and then a voice comes along that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. Such a voice is that of Scottish Classical Soprano Cheryl Anne Easton who uses her angelic, golden tones to great musical effect in this eclectic mix of musical styles.
A native of Dumfries in South West Scotland, Cheryl Anne is in great demand throughout the UK as a soloist on the concert platform, in oratorio and on the stage. She is also a regular in the Sounds Scottish Show, an evening of traditional Scottish music presented in the Old Well Theatre, Moffat, Dumfriesshire, Scotland during the Summer months.
With her colleague and friend Sheila Graham she forms the “One†in the “one and a Half Sopranos†a comedy opera duo who made a huge impression on their audiences at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2005 when they took the world of opera to a new dimension with their own quirky, comic style.
In this, her debut album, Cheryl Anne sings songs from a variety of genres and stamps her own personality on each and every track.
In the Classical and opera section she gives her interpretations of Mozart, Schubert, and Puccini, whilst Lehar and Sullivan are represented from the world of Operetta along with a warm, witty and sparkling performance of Herbert’s Art is Calling For Me.
In her crossover songs from Broadway musicals beauty of tone is never sacrificed and her renditions form the nostalgic section draws emotion from the stoniest of hearts.
Scots far from home will appreciate the songs in her native tongue and ex-pat Doonhamers in particular will enthral at her choice of final choice of song “Queen of the South†– the anthem of her home town of Dumfries.
