Arturo Coppola's voice was a gift from God, perfected
by dedication and hard work. From childhood, music was
his muse. Life held but one destiny for him-to be a
world-class tenor. He put his heart into pursuing that
goal. His focus never wavered. He was constantly
improving and moving closer to the critical success he
deserved.
Arturo's musical journey was harder because he chose
the road less traveled, away from contemporary music,
and instead focused on songs of the past, timeless
melodies he considered important. He sang them in his
own distinctive way, sometimes operatic, other times,
naturally. His diligence paid off in a rich, wonderful
sound, a tenor as heavenly as earthly possible.
He always gave his all in performance. On stage and in
the recording studio, he poured forth emotion,
sometimes sad, mournful, other times, joyous or
playful. He enchanted listeners with carefully
polished interpretations of countless selections, from
operas to show tunes to popular standards and, his
all-time favorite, Neapolitan classics. He loved these
songs especially because of his proud Italian heritage
and the full range of vocalization they offered him.
Tireless in his devotion to perfecting his craft,
Arturo searched catalogues of music for songs he felt
deserved to be heard again. Melodies that had long
remained in obscurity were brought to life and
presented to audiences. He was overjoyed when
audiences appreciated them as much as he did.
A thoughtful man, Arturo was blessed with a sharp wit.
He was a mischievous joker who loved to play pranks on
his family and friends. His humorous side helped him
face the trials and tribulations of a career in music.
He joked about times that would try the strongest
individual, making light of them. He was positive and
always kept his sights set on a brighter future, where
he could share his love of great music with larger,
more appreciative audiences.
In the fall of 2004, after a series of concert dates,
Arturo fell ill with a respiratory infection, which
turned into pneumonia. Complications set in, and he
passed away on November 8.
Fortunately for his fans, Arturo had finished
recording a new CD before he became ill. Titled "Lift
the Wings," after a song from the classic dance
production, "Riverdance," this beautiful, powerful
collection of music proves that this talented artist
had completed his journey to vocal perfection.
