REVIEW:
“ I have heard many people speak about Alethea’s music, and there seems to be a common experience: Alethea’s music has the power to pierce right through the mind and directly touch the heart. I believe that this happens because, as she plays and composes, she is also communing with the resonant stillness of her own heart.” ~Carlos del Cueto (musician)

ABOUT THE CD:
“ Shri Maya (pronounced Shree Maayaa) is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘a sacred piece of magic’.
The improvisations on this cd are inspired by Indian ragas (or scales), and a love for simplicity.
May you find peace and love within.” ~Alethea

BIOGRAPHY:
Alethea began studying the Clarinet in 1989, and Piano in 1991. She gained her B(Hons) degree in Music at Huddersfield University, England in 2002, and Masters degree in Music Composition at Southampton University, England in 2004.

In 1997, Alethea took a Gap year in India, teaching volunteer English to Tibetan nuns for 3 months in Dharamsala, and then travelled around India and Nepal for a further 5 months.

In 2003, Alethea spent a year at an ashram (meditation centre) in New York, offering selfless service in the music department. It was here that she learnt about Indian music and developed a love for Indian ragas (or scales), and the devotional quality inherent in this style of music.

Alethea returned to India in October 2004 for 3 months to deepen her study of Indian music, and again to offer selfless service at an ashram in Ganeshpuri.

Alethea moved from England to San Francisco, California in March 2006; she performs her music at alternative venues in San Francisco and the East Bay, and continues to study Indian music.
