(rECENT sHOW rEVIEWS)

*The 2nd annual 12th and Porter show was a pleasent way to spend an evening. especially when DAVID MEAD tore it up from the very first song. Sure enough, right from the get go, with the first hit of the tomb leading into the first rythmic stroke of the guitar, David confidently envited us in to a classic sounding set of mid-tempo creations.
As for us (me, gabe, brandon and costa), we were happy to be there, and were refreshed to play loudly again. We all agreed that if we could have played another show back to back with the first, we would have performed with even more ease and skill, but we were quite happy with the opportunity that night. And to all the TIME-TAKERS: (yeah, thats right, people like you, Scott G) We just loved having you show up so consistantly, it really gives us some validation and confidence when playing places like 12th and Porter. We thank you. Hopefully, as we become better performers, and you become better spectators, we will all learn to rock out a little more. (Nov 29, 03)

*The acoustic Rocket town diddy was...living-roomy. I suppose there was a handful of people I knew, plus one or two, and slightly smaller handful of gals i didnt know. i was happy to have a few encouragers there for me. The sound was surprisingly good. thanks to my cousin's acoustic amp and the rocket town sound guy, things were pretty warm and not sharp, not so gainy and cutting and hissy like a cat. i played some new stuff, and that is sometimes a good thing. Fun factor? i actually had more fun warming up and doing soundcheck before the concerto even began. toying with the few stragelers that i didnt know, and working with the sound guy. 10/16.03


*The Full Life Christian Center concert was cool at times. This place provided the best stage weve played on, and our first, improv light show to accompany the music played by me, GABE PIGG BRANDON HARRIS and COSTA SOMETHING. AKA, dont know how to spell it. we did 5 songs, someof which rocked and some only tried. one song i did just acoustic called "dancing", danced out of my memory when i tried to play it. i forgot most of the chords so i had to impov the whole thing. if i get famous, it should be sold on ebay for a lump some. also i think feedback was a little trigger happy . later, Gritz rapped the speakers into our ears and behinds.




* The"Freedom in the river" concert festival: Well, as far as the band performance goes (me gabe brandon taylor), it was pretty good. It was outside so that kinda hurt. We played first, so we started before the festival officially began...that is why landon's friends were the only spectators. But, a little contrary to what i had thought, the festival was very very little about me. we played and then were out of site and mind for the most part. everyone began to focus more on the man Jesus for the remainder of the festival. it was good.
Phil keaggy was sweet and tastey and amazing. thought you should know.
Homeless people lined up and held out their hands and received money or hugs from the everyone else. young people were prayed for. testimonies of healing were given. i had a good experience for the most part of it: friends and family and sunshine were some of the secondary factors of my good experience.




* Well, the ancient show at 12th and Porter was not a desaster. David Mead's vocal chords were pliant as string (ben) and his guitar was flawless. Just remember, people, I was able to open up for this machine-man. So, if you did show up, I just want to thank you. Seeya

( mY sONG wRITING pROCESS )

There is not much to say. I have been attempting to write more recently and, as a result, have been playing out less frequently. There is a particular writing cycle that I undergo: I most often begin with music on the guitar. This comes by simply striking random chords until the notes become less and less random. I refine the chords, even if it means de-tuning the strings, until they can be understood. Since I cannot help but sing, melodies accompany my chord structure in the form of random, un-thought out phrases. Many times, these spontaneous phrases become the theme of my song, or at least a part of it. If the lyric appears random at first, I dwell on it and assign meaning to it. However, sometimes the first words that come to my mind are quite unoriginal and stale. They are only on the tip of my tongue because other artists have said the exact same thing. If I do not make significant progress with a song within a short time period, I begin craving a new tune and cannot help but tinker around with my guitar toy until something new is birthed. This goes on for a while, and at the end of a couple months, I am left with numerous not-quite-complete guitar ideas. This is the frustrating period of time. I try to persevere through my lack of progress, and then finally, I will complete one entire song. Usually after this happens, songs begin to flow like milk and honey for the next few weeks. Since I do have a warehouse full of half-finished songs to choose from, many different songs are produced...that, my friends, is the fun part.
