Allen Russell's first album, Tombigbee River, features 12 songs written by him, with one song co-written with his wife, Laura Russell. This guitarist, songwriter, and singer grew up in the small town of Carrollton, Alabama, where his country roots grew deep.

However, his teen years were spent playing rock and roll. Bands like the Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Bad Company influenced his guitar style. At the same time, country artists such as Hank Williams, Jr., Glen Campbell, and the Charlie Daniels Band caught his attention. On the Tombigbee River album you can expect to hear a little of all of these influences come through in his guitar licks, song writing and singing.

What are his songs about? Most of the songs that Allen writes are true to life. Most are about true-life experiences or someone else's experiences observed from a distance. Some are stories; some are just plain fun to tap your feet to. One treat on the album is an instrumental call The Carrollton Rag, where Allen plays acoustic and electric guitars in a fast-paced rag style tune.

There is fingerpicking, flat-picking and just plain strumming on this guitar-rich album. Country ballads, songs of hope, sad songs, feel-good songs -- Allen Russell's Tombigbee River has a little something for everyone. Thanks for listening.
