Formed in the fertile pop-climate of Utrecht (the Netherlands), The Yearlings make catchy pop-songs with a twang. Inspired by the American Alt. Country scene (Uncle Tupelo, Jayhawks, Slobberbone) this six-piece tries to show that, within the boundaries of crafted songwriting, rock and country cliches are far from worn-out.
Almost 2 years after the release of their surprising debut cd, The Yearlings return with an impressive effort; these 12 songs and 2 musical snapshots make out one of the best roots-pop cd's you are likely to hear this year. Distinct harmonies, tinging guitars, a wailing pedal steel guitar (Rene Van Barneveld of Urban Dance Squad) are augmented by fiddle, piano and accordion. The result is the remarkably identifiable and majestic sound of The Yearlings.
