Bob Stovall has been singing all his life, and at nearly 80 years of age, he isn't slowing down one bit. Being a successful businessman hasn't interfered with his making time to follow his passion -- singing the great standards and jazz tunes of the 20th century. On some nights, after singing at a local Orange County hotel until 11PM, he will then drive to one of his favorite "smoky" bars to sing to his following. But this is nothing new for Bob.

While in college, Bob had the weekly "Tea Timer" show on KOY Radio in Phoenix, AZ and also sang at various night clubs in the 60's. After developing his own business in outdoor advertising, Bob and family moved to Orange County, CA in 1975, where he joined his brother Jim in operating the hotels they owned near Disneyland. Bob soon formed a band with four young Disneyland musicians and performed with them for parties at the Big Canyon Country Club and other private gatherings.
Then in the 80's, Bob sang with the Don West Trio at Bob Burns Restaurant for three years, and is currently singing at "The Fling" in Santa Ana on Thursday's with the "Sweet Little Rockers" and with Eddie Day Chiaverini on Saturday nights. (Over the past 25 years, Bob has also made 10 CDs for family and friends. Some of them are available from www.cdbaby.com)

In 2004, Bob formed a musical relationship with pianist Ben Di Tosti, who remarks that Bob is such a pro, all Ben has to do is "follow the voice." The following year Bob formed the "Bob Stovall Swing Band, which has backed him several times at the Hilton Hotel in Costa Mesa, They have also made three CDs, including one in the fall of 2004, one in the winter of 2005, and this current release, "The Glory of Love." {available at www.cdbaby.com}

One of the cuts on this CD, "Ja-Da," has special significance to Bob. He says, "My dad had a band -- the Al Stovall Band -- in Kansas in the late 1930s. As a boy of about 13 years of age, I heard him play the song. On this tune, as on the others on the CD, it is apparent that Bob and his fine swing musicians love what they are doing and inspire each other to make special musical moments out of these great standard tunes. And it only takes a few bars from any of the remarkable performances on Bob's latest CD to convince the listener that Bob, with his warm, truly unique voice, is an American original.
