bandxy are Hannes Oud and Frida Plucinski, two innovative students in their early twenties. Although both are from Germany you cannot say that their music sounds 'typisch deutsch'.
Hannes, the multitalented globe-trotter, has picked up many musical influences on his travels and is not hesitant to include them in the creation of bandxy's music. The accoustic blues guitar, the whining electrical guitar, the exotic vibrations of the tabla drums and some unidentifiable noises make up the unique experimental sound of bandxy and their first album 'Z'. The other dominant feature is the singing.
Frida, a genuine East-Berliner, uses her voice as the only instrument to support, contrast and blend with Hannes' singing. With her unaltered sexy voice she gives the songs a fresh and swinging feeling.
But how did it all come about? The two met in Galway/Ireland in August 2004 and it took them (only) 2 months to realise that they could both try and make music together. Out of the idea and the promise to make a song for a mutual friend they realised, that they had so much fun writing, performing and recording together that they decided to continue the colaboration. So in October 2004 they started recording music in Hannes' bedroom on a regular basis and after two months and eight songs Hannes said: "Hey Frida, I bet we could sell this sexy music and earn a fortune!"
And so there was 'Z'!
The names of the band and the album are by the way the result of a long process of gaining self-consciousness as a project that does not easily fit into any musical classifications. They nevertheless existed already before Coldplay decided to name their new album 'X+Y'...
The songs on 'Z' are mainly inspired by situations and events that Hannes and Frida experienced and by people they met during there time in Galway. No wonder therefore that the lyrics and the mood of the album cover a whole range between easy going fun and melancholic love tragedy... but always with a wink.
Now that the two musicians are back in Germany they try to follow their academic careers in different parts of their home country. The band project is not on ice, though...
There are a few more unpublished Galway bedroom recordings that might be put on a second album. Furthermore Hannes and Frida plan to meet up this summer to write new stuff and to set up the one or the other little performance! So whoever happens to be in Berlin or Bremen...watch out for bandxy!
