Music Box Entertainment presents the Back Alley Blues Band! Rock n' blues is it with this band from Pittsburgh. The group was known in the tri-state area as the Ron Miller blues band. M.B.E. picked up the group with the interest in exploring the blues genre. M.B.E. called upon Tim Powell to help produce for the cd 'up all nite'. Powell has produced for M.B.E. in the past with jazz group TJ and the band and r&b/vocal group B-yond. Having played bass guitar on past projects,Powell also shows his versatility on this cd by playing lead guitar for the group. Powell's performance does not disappoint. 'up all nite' is packed with guitar crying, story telling,'woman done left me'blues as well as great r&b/soul songs. The group's cover of 'take me to the river' is very smart and exciting-definitely a car stereo blaster. 'welcome mat' is a guitar riff smorgasborg! The story telling 'gone n' caught the blues' tells about a man mesmerized by the mojo weaving woman- close your eyes and you might think stevie ray is playing on this one. R&b/soul tracks 'lovelight' and 'i love you' keep your foot tapping. Have a chuckle with catch-phrasy,B.B.King-ish 'future mrs. ex'. Overall,'up all nite' is well put together and quite entertaining to listen to on the highway,at poker nite,or just for the house party. Plenty of horns, smoking guitars, and pounding drum. Great cd to have in the player rack.
