This is the first album from a group that's been gigging in and around Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for the last five years. All four 'Graymen' have been playing in bands since their teens and it shows on this CD. Jay Spell (keyboards) has recorded with John Mayall, Tower of Power, Jimmy Buffett, The Tractors, and Ronnie Milsap to name just a few! The music varies from straight-ahead electric blues to acoustic/honky tonk to country-flavored to rhythm and blues. What is consistent throughout is a rootsy, good-time feel, wonderful instrumental performances, tasteful and tight arrangements with solid vocals. Three members share lead vocals and the variety of singing styles, as well as the material, makes for satisfying listening again and again.

Marc Serio plays bass and sings with a growl and gusto reminiscent of Delbert McClinton with a hint of Joe Cocker.Tony Maulden plays drums and has a country edge to his soulful voice, even on the slow blues classic, 'Stormy Monday.'

Jonathan Simons provides solid vocals on several tunes but shines brightest in his harmonica and guitar work. Playing in acoustic and electric styles on both instruments (adding a mandolin track on 'The Weight') and producing, 'Doc' Simons combines chops with taste.

Perhaps most impressive from an instrumental point of view is Jay Spell's piano and Hammond organ work. As he has done with so many artists in the past, Jay brings to Grayman's Blues his almost supernatural talent for blending with the group while at the same time entertaining as a gifted soloist. His sensitivity and technique are matchless.

Guest artists include virtuoso 'melobar' slide guitarist, Dean Black (Black Rose guitars, pedal steel conventions, etc.) and Patterson Barrett (an Austin, Texas icon and keyboardist for the Newmatics).

Covers of Keb'Mo', Delbert, The Band, Lee Roy Parnell as well as traditional blues.
