Inventure update
28 April 2002
Since
returning to London in December after the round Britain I've
spent most of the time in bed with chronic fatigue. Initially
I thought it was a reaction to the three and a half month
voyage but last week was diagnosed to have a shortage of oxygen
in my red blood cells and begun corrective treatment (apparently
the cause is genetic and my age!). It's a huge relief to have
a dianosis after over a dozen visits to hospitals, doctors
and various other health practitioners. All being well I should
end up healthier than I've been for years but it will take
a few months.
Inventure
has survived the winter intact although one deck cleat was
pulled out during a storm. The electrics have almost entirely
been re-run and the engines reinstalled. The major outstanding
job is to build a new wing control system which we hope to
do during the summer.
The
main news is that there is a move afoot to sell Inventure
to the Inventure Trust. A major grant from the Cadogan Charity
has been earmarked to enable this to take place. The object
of the Inventure Trust is to run her as a training and recreational
facility for disabled people.
In
the short term I've decided to abandon my goal of sailing
around the world in favour of running the Trust. This is due
mainly to my current health problems.
More
later.
